Hello,

I wanted to let the professional people of this list know that I have
released a new version 0.1.5 of the NHW Project.

I have added very high compression (-l9 and -l10 quality settings). With
-l10 setting, we're notably entering very high compression, and the NHW
Project has still a very good neatness, and I still find it visually more
pleasant than x265 (HEVC).The NHW Project is also still a lot faster to
encode/decode than x265 (optimized HEVC), and the new entropy coding
schemes are still not totally optimal for now (I have the fast ideas to
improve them), and so we can save 2KB-2.5KB per .nhw compressed file.

This is a constant, with this new version 0.1.5, the NHW Project has a good
neatness/image quality from high quality (-h3 setting) to very high
compression (-l10 setting).I have also released for this new version, a NHW
neatness metrics, that measures neatness of image, and that shows that the
NHW Project has more neatness than x265 (HEVC) for example.

More at: http://nhwcodec.blogspot.com/ .

Also I am looking to turn the NHW Project into a full video codec in order
to submit to the Alliance for Open Media, MPEG new video coding
standard,... but it lacks to my codec the inter-frame mechanism.Would some
of the companies on this list be interested to add an inter-frame engine to
the NHW Project to make a new very competitive video codec (high
efficiency/quality, royalty-free, very fast)?

Many thanks!
Best regards,
Raphael Canut

Hi,

Just a quick message, for those interested, I have improved very high
compression -l8, -l9, -l10 quality settings. These settings have now more
precision and still a good neatness, and so this version is better (and we
can still save 2.5Ko in average per .nhw compressed file).

More at: http://nhwcodec.blogspot.com/

So sorry for "spamming" the list, I thought (but I could be very wrong)
that the NHW Project could interest the industry as it is becoming very
competitive with HEVC, and still a lot faster to encode/decode, and
royalty-free.

As usual, your professional opinion would be very welcome.

Many thanks!
Cheers,
Raphael

Just a quick message, as there seems to be interested people on this list,
I have added a new -l11 very high compression quality setting to the NHW
Project (and I still don't have touched the entropy coding schemes, and so
we can still save 2KB-2.5KB per .nhw compressed file).

This new quality setting is quite competitive because it still maintains a
good level of neatness, even at these very high compression ratios. For
example, I have compared this -l11 very high compression setting with x265
(HEVC) on rather good quality images, and I visually prefer the results of
the NHW Project because it has more neatness, even at these very high
compression ratios!!! Furthermore, with a good level of optimization
(multithreading, SIMD) the NHW Project is at least 50x faster to encode and
at least 15x faster to decode than x265 (optimized HEVC), and is still
royalty-free!

This past year, the NHW Project has a lot improved and can be interesting
now.If you are interested, please do not hesitate to contact me, would be
great.

Many thanks for your time!
Cheers,
Raphael Canut
