Summary

Discussion list for virtual network function resource pooling.

A virtualized network function (VNF) is a computing entity that can be available in multiple instances running on top of general purpose servers via virtualization platform. There are potentially more factors that cause VNF instance transition or even failure such as software failure, instance migration or configuration change, etc. A challenge is how to achieve the reliability and high availability of the VNF. For example, some efficient ways for handling VNF instance transition including service state synchronization, backup instance selection and notification to adjacent VNFs are needed. The primary goal of this list is to identify an appropriate set of problems regarding the VNF reliability, then to explore the potential solutions including reusing existing approaches.
