A New Internet-Draft is available from the on-line Internet-Drafts director=
ies. This draft is a work item of the Audio/Video Transport Extensions Work=
ing Group of the IETF.

Title : Considerations for Deploying the Rapid Acquisition of Mu=
lticast RTP Sessions (RAMS) Method
	Author(s) : Ali Begen
	Filename : draft-ietf-avtext-rams-scenarios-05.txt
	Pages : 12
	Date : 2012-05-10

The Rapid Acquisition of Multicast RTP Sessions (RAMS) solution is a
method based on RTP and RTP Control Protocol (RTCP) that enables an
RTP receiver to rapidly acquire and start consuming the RTP multicast
data. Upon a request from the RTP receiver, an auxiliary unicast RTP
retransmission session is set up between a retransmission server and
the RTP receiver, over which the reference information about the new
multicast stream the RTP receiver is about to join is transmitted at
an accelerated rate. This often precedes, but may also accompany,
the multicast stream itself. When there is only one multicast stream
to be acquired, the RAMS solution works in a straightforward manner.
However, when there are two or more multicast streams to be acquired
from the same or different multicast RTP sessions, care should be
taken to configure each RAMS session appropriately. This document
provides example scenarios and discusses how the RAMS solution could
   be used in such scenarios.

(as WG cochair)

To save asking the editor to do this, I did it myself.

This revision handles IESG discusses which can be found in:

https://datatracker.ietf.org/doc/draft-ietf-avtext-rams-scenarios/ballot/=20

and from the Gen-Art review which can be found in:

http://www.ietf.org/mail-archive/web/gen-art/current/msg07402.html=20

I believe none of the changes are of a technical nature.

The document is up for the IESG telechat today.

Regards

Keith

Technical Summary

Working Group Summary

The document is a product of the AVTEXT working group. All controversial issues
were issues of the preceding RAMS document already published in RFC 6285, and
this document raised no new issues.

Document Quality

There are existing implementations of RFC 6285. This document merely gives some
example scenarios of the usage of RFC 6285.

Personnel

Keith Drage is the document shepherd.
Gonzalo Camarillo is the responsible area director.

WG,

As individual I would like to inform you that this update is just a
version number and date bump. No other changes. An updated version will
be provided later. But until then we think it should be available in
datatracker.

Cheers

Magnus

With the increased popularity of real-time multimedia applications,
users demand more control over communication sessions. This document
describes how a receiver in a multimedia conversation can pause and
resume incoming data from a sender by sending real-time feedback
messages when using Real-time Transport Protocol (RTP) for real time
data transport. This document extends the Codec Control Messages
(CCM) RTCP feedback package by adding a group of new real-time
feedback messages used to pause and resume RTP data streams.

WG,

There was substantial amount of feedback from the IESG on the Splicing
document. Thus the document needs to be revised on a number of points:

- add clarifications about the intent of the document
- add clarification why it was written
- clarify what is the current situation on the field
- let a English native speaker do a editoral pass on it.
- Resolve all the discusses and comments from IESG members.

So those are the tasks next for the authors and the WG.

The IESG has requested that they get do a full new IESG evaluation on
this document when we have addressed the issues.

I would expect that due to the changes to the document that we will need
to do a new WG last call, followed by a new publication request and IETF
last call.

Cheers

Magnus Westerlund
WG chair

Hi Magnus,
I am wondering if there is a new requirement for and English native =
speaker
to do an editorial review of a document. If not I do not think that the =
IESG
can request this.
Maybe the next phase will not allow you and I to publish drafts since we =
are
not native English speakers and there will be a request to have an =
native
English speaker as editor

(As WG chair)

There is no such requirement and well you know it.

You can find the full IESG review comments here and maybe you should take a=
 look:

https://datatracker.ietf.org/doc/draft-ietf-avtext-splicing-for-rtp/ballot/=
=20

The specific comment that generated this was:

"-- General --
There are numerous English-language issues with the document, too
many to detail with OLD/NEW suggestions. The document would benefit from a=
 pass
by a native English speaker to fix the grammar, punctuation, and such, and =
I
strongly suggest such an edit. That said, the document is readable as it i=
s,
and these are edits the RFC Editor will make if we don't do it before. (No=
te
that this is a complaint against the WG, not against the editor. WGs shoul=
d be
addressing this sort of issue in their review, and should appoint a co-edit=
or in
cases where the primary editor needs help getting the English right.)"

You will see it comes under the heading of "editorial comment" rather than =
"substantive comment". I do not see this comment making any hint in the dir=
ection that you are trying to take this discussion.

I have undertaken to do a read through of the document to this end before i=
t goes back to IESG, but I need to see a draft where the numerous other iss=
ues have been addressed first. Of course, if you object to people reading t=
he documents and suggesting improvements...

Keith
